These blogs are a series of reflections from a clinical psychologist who has spent his career working in various mental health facilities, mostly in inner city London, UK.
Mental health services do not seem to have improved over the years. In fact, in many respects, they have become more inflexible and bureaucratic, operating on the basis that the difficulties people encounter in life are forms of biological disorder or illnesses.
There are encouraging signs that this attempt to convert distress into ‘ill-health’ is being strongly resisted by both the users of services and by mental health professionals. However, there is still a very, very long way to go in changing the current situation.
